    Collections & Research

    Museum Collections and Acquisitions

The Museum's collection of over 20,000 objects and archival documents covers every aspect of our local history from settlement (circa 1830) to the present. We collect items pertaining to the geographic area of Strathroy-Caradoc and the people who lived here or influenced our municipality's development. This includes household items, farming implements, documents, artwork, military and sports artifacts, photographs, clothing and textiles, and more.

The Museum is pleased to accept items that fulfill the collection mandate in person, or accompanied by appropriate donor and item information. All items are then reccomended to our Collections Committee for review. You will be notified of the final decision regarding your donation in a timely manner.

Check out our Collections blog to learn more about the storage facility, artifacts, and recently donated items!

    Collections Storage Facility

A custom designed storage area was built to accommodate the artifacts in the Museum collection. This space is located in a new shared facility at the rear of the Strathroy Public Library site.

    Museum Collection

This facility was developed to honour our mandate to collect, preserve and interpret the material heritage significant to the history of Strathroy-Caradoc and its neighbouring communities. Each artifact in the Museum collection representis an aspect of our community’s story and has been donated to the Museum in trust. It's our duty to preserve this material through appropriate methods of storage, and to present and promote the history of the area through these artifacts to foster an appreciation for the relevance of the community’s past to its present and future development.

    2. Visiting Researcher With Curatorial Assistance: The researcher is provided with access to primary resources through the assistance of our curatorial staff. Appointments must be arranged in advance to ensure that the Museum has resources that will assist the researcher and, if so, to ensure that space and appropriate staff are available to retrieve materials from our archives.

    3. Corresponding Researcher: We offer two levels of service to researchers who are unable to visit the Museum personally:

For details on any such listings, directed research would then be required.

Directed Research: A staff member will conduct research on a specific subject and a customized written report of our findings will be provided.
